CARP Halton Chapter community meetings will be held as usual in both Milton and Burlington in February and at both locations we will be very pleased to welcome Registered Dietitian (RD) Cheryl Corry.
February is Heart Month and Cheryl will give a very timely presentation entitled: “Heart Healthy Eating”.
Highlights of her presentation will include:
- Cardiovascular disease and risk factors
- Types of fat in the blood
- Food sources of healthy and unhealthy fats
- Mediterranean eating pattern/heart healthy eating guidelines
- Well balanced plate
- Foods to limit: i.e. sugar, salt, unhealthy fats,alcohol
- Foods to include: Soluble fibre, plant sterols, probiotics
- Weight management
- Physical activity
- Reading nutrition labels
- Setting goals for change
Cheryl is a founder of “Nutrition Pathway” whose goal is to help clients achieve a healthy lifestyle. The following is summarized and quoted from her website:As a Registered Dietitian, Cheryl provides trusted, reliable nutrition advice based on current scientific research. Cheryl works with clients to develop personalized health care plans specific to their needs. She provides nutrition assessments and counselling to help them make healthy changes to their eating habits and lifestyle and/or prevent or treat chronic diseases.
Cheryl graduated with an Honors Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from the University of Western Ontario. She completed her dietetic internship at St. Michael’s hospital in Toronto. Cheryl is a Registered Dietitian in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario and a member of Dietitians of Canada, Consulting Dietitian’s group.
Throughout her career, Cheryl has provided nutrition counselling as a clinical dietitian in a community hospital and as member of a family health team. She has several years’ experience facilitating nutrition related workshops and has worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a sales trainer. She has experience helping clients manage emotional and/or problematic eating behaviour and improve their relationship with food.
Cheryl believes that healthy eating is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. It is not about deprivation, but rather enjoying the foods you love in moderation. Cheryl’s nutrition knowledge, experience, compassion and step by step approach have helped her successfully guide her clients along the pathway of making positive lifestyle changes. She is passionate about helping clients achieve their health goals and improve their overall wellbeing.
Cheryl lives with her family in Oakville.

Our Milton meeting will take place on Wednesday February 13th from 7.00pm to 8.45pm at the Seniors Activity Centre, 500 Childs Drive, Milton. Doors will open at 6.30pm.
Our Burlington meeting will take place on Thursday February 28th from 7.00pm to 8.45pm at the Seniors Centre, 2285 New Street, Burlington. Doors will open at 6.30pm.
Doors will open at both locations at 6.30pm. The program will begin at 7.00pm and wrap-up at 8.45pm. Coffee and tea will be available. Treats for our Milton meeting will be supplied by Revera and at Burlington by Chartwell Retirement Residences. We would like to thank them for their generosity.
Both meetings will begin with a short welcoming address from our Chapter President Tom Carrothers. Tom will also provide a brief update on your CARP Halton Chapter activities.
This will be followed by our featured presentation.
