CARP Halton Chapter Community Meetings in January

We are now well into our 2018/2019 program focussing on “Health Care” particularly as it relates to seniors’and for our January meetings we are very pleased to announce that we will have special guest speakers from the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA). Dr Parminder Raina will speak at Burlington and Brenda Vrkljan will speak at Milton.

The presentation will be entitled: The Purpose of Living Long

MIRA aims to optimize the longevity of Canada’s aging population through research, education and collaboration. Interdisciplinary teams work alongside older adults and key stakeholders to discover ways that will help Canadians spend more years living well.

Our speakers will be experts on all aspects of aging and will discuss the current research on aging successfully. This will include information both on how the body ages and also how the society in which we live impacts the aging process.

MIRA also acts as an entry point into some of McMaster’s research platforms in aging. Our speakers will highlight for example the McMaster Optimal Aging Portal. This on-line portal, please click HERE, provides access to a wealth of reliable medical information. Quoting from this website information is “written by trusted experts both to inform and inspire healthy aging. Scientific evidence is used to provide credible insights on hot topics and prevalent conditions related to seniors’ health”.

Please join us at either location for what will be a very interesting and informative evening.

Doors will open at both locations at 6.30pm with the main meeting taking place between 7.00pm and 8.45pm. Coffee and tea will be available. Treats for our Milton meeting will be supplied by Revera and at Burlington by Chartwell Retirement Residences. We would like to thank them for their generosity.

Our Milton meeting will take place on Wednesday January 9th from 6.30pm to 8.45pm at the Seniors Activity Centre, 500 Childs Drive, Milton.

Our Burlington meeting will take place on Thursday January 24th from 6.30pm to 8.45pm at the Seniors Centre, 2285 New Street, Burlington.
