Opportunity to Participate in Research

The Centre for Elder Research is collaborating on a research project entitled Assessing the impact of wearing a weighted vest on balance, stability, and quality of life in older adults partnership with Power WearHouse.

This project seeks to investigate the impact of wearing weighted vests while performing various tasks on perceptions of quality of life, confidence in stability, and balance in older adults.

Interested participants, aged 55+ who meet the criteria, will be invited to take part in a one hour in-person assessment at the Centre for Elder Research.  Participants will be instructed to perform a series of physical tasks while outfitted in vests of various weights. You will also be asked to answer questionnaires with the research assistant between each set of tasks, while audio and video recordings are captured.  Upon completion of your assessment, you will be offered $25 CAD in the form of a digital gift card to thank you for your participation.

If you are aged 55+ and would like to participate, please click on the following link to complete a screening questionnaire:

There will also be an opportunity to participate in an optional take-home portion of the study, which would involve taking home a weighted vest for personal use for two weeks. After the completion of your in-person session more details about this optional portion of the study will be shared with you and you can decide whether or not you would like to participate.

If you have questions about the study, please contact the Research Coordinator, Isabel, at [email protected] or 905-845-9430 ext. 2977
