C.A.R.P. Halton Chapter ZOOM Meeting September 23rd.

For our next two community meetings C.A.R.P. Halton Chapter will essentially be presenting a two-part series focussing on “housing for seniors”. Based on the premise that many seniors wish to stay in our own homes for as long as possible our speaker in September will talk about the things that can be done to make sure that seniors stay healthy and safe for as long as we wish to stay in our own home. This meeting will be on September 23rd, more details about this meeting and how to join are provided below.

But what happens and what options are available when we can no longer stay in our own homes? Many seniors wrestle with the question “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” At what point will we no longer be able to say in our current accommodation? Giving serious thought to this ahead of time and knowing the options that are available as our needs change will be of vital importance in helping us make the decisions that are right for our personal circumstances. In October our speaker will discuss the options available in Halton and outline the resources available to us. Our October meeting is scheduled for the 28th and details for that meeting will be provided in a later newsletter.

As noted above our next community meeting will be on September 23rd. Our speaker will be Olivia Green who is affiliated with McMaster University. She works with the GERAS Centre for Aging Research (https://www.gerascentre.ca/) , also based out of McMaster, and is in her residency to become a geriatrician. Researchers at GERAS do a lot of good research and education around helping older adults stay safe and healthy in their homes as they age. Olivia will talk about practical tips that can be implemented to make sure the homes people already live in are safe for individuals to stay in as long as they would like. Given her background we are sure that Olivia will provide information that will be very useful to our demographic.

It goes without saying that housing is one of the most important issues that we all face, none more so than seniors. We believe that our next two presentations will help address the many questions you may have around this vital subject. Please join us as we are very much looking forward to both of these presentations.
