“Local services available to people living with dementia and their care partners”
CARP Halton Chapter will begin the new year as usual with two community meetings, one in Halton North on January 9th and one in Halton South on January 25th. Our Halton North meeting will be held at the Birkdale Retirement Living Residence at 611 Farmstead Drive (Derry and Farmstead) in Milton. Our Halton South meeting will be held at the Seniors Centre at 2285 New Street, Burlington. At these meetings we will have a presentation by local experts from the Alzheimer Society who will provide an overview of the local services and service providers that help people living with dementia, and their caregivers.
Our Presenter at Halton North will be Natalie Buelow. Natalie is a Counsellor with the Alzheimer Society mainly serving clients in North Halton. I provide one on one counselling and facilitate support groups for care partners of people living with dementia. I am a Registered Social Service Worker (RSSW) and have been working in the healthcare/senior care community for over 15 years.
Our presenter at Halton South will be Lori-Anne Koopman. Lori-Anne is the First Link Care Navigator with the Alzheimer Society Hamilton Halton, supporting clients in the Burlington area. I meet with clients earlier in the diagnosis helping to coordinate and integrate supports and services for persons living with dementia and their care partners. I assist clients in navigating the healthcare system and other community supports and facilitate those linkages. I am a Registered Social Service Worker (RSSW) and have been working with older adults for 10+ years.
These presentations will provide an overview of local services and service providers that help individuals living with dementia, and their care partners. The presentation will be helpful to families and friends of those living with dementia, and anyone who wants to know more about relevant services in the community. Topics will include identifying needs, including both care needs and supports for daily living, identifying services, and how to access them. We will also share information about the Alzheimer Society and how we support families throughout the journey of dementia.
Please plan to join us at either location. We look forward to seeing our members and friends at this important presentation.
