Oakville: Seniors Centres Without Walls

The following appeared in the Oakville Recreation and Culture News. You can also find full information on the Town of Oakville website.

Seniors Centres Without Walls

Our Seniors Services team is excited to launch Seniors Centres Without Walls(SCWW), a free and interactive telephone-based program that safely connects seniors 50+ to other seniors from the comfort of their homes. Having tried it herself, Julie says “It’s like a party on your phone.”

Starting June 1, SCWW will offer a series of 30 to 60-minute multi-person phone conversations covering engaging and interesting topics. Each discussion begins at 10 a.m., Monday to Friday.

All you need is a phone. No internet or other technology is required. You simply make a phone call and enter a 6 digit passcode to join the conversation. But if you have any concerns about dialing into the call, our staff can call you instead.

This program is completely free and everyone 50+ is welcome, so invite your network of friends, family and neighbours to participate as well. We promise that there will be a topic for everyone to enjoy.

Join us for trivia, fact or fiction, historical discussions or book club reviews. If that doesn’t grab your attention, what about Brain Games, meditation or our Friendship Friday where we will share good news stories?

We are also inviting guest speakers. Dr. Fink will discuss your eye health given our increased use of technology and screens. Halton Regional Police Service will remind you about current Frauds and Scams. Julian from the Oakville Museum will share historical stories. And that’s just to name a few!

Details are provided in the SCWW calendar. An online version and printable PDF can be found on the Town of Oakville website.

To register for programs, please call 905-845-6601, ext. 3979, or email [email protected] and let us know which one(s) you are interested in.
