WHAT TO DO WHEN SOMEONE DIES
The ‘What to do when someone dies’ hub is a new online tool on Canada.ca, where families, caregivers, friends, veterans, First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples, legal and administrative representatives, estate trustees and executors can learn about Canada’s death benefit system and the digital tools to help locate services and benefits available based on their specific situation.
With user-friendly navigation, the tool provides individuals with simplified guidance on what to do when someone dies, mental health support information and the option to start a ‘Guidance after death questionnaire’.
The tool offers information on:
- The steps to take for those preparing for death,
- Services relevant to navigating a death,
- Survivor benefits and how to access them in a timely manner,
- How to notify the federal government of a death.
To help raise awareness about the new tool, Service Canada, can provide more information to your staff/volunteers or to your clients.
As part of outreach services we offer Information sessions (virtual or in person):
- Customized presentations for your organization’s staff/volunteers to provide them with information on the new tool as well as information on Canada Pension Plan Survivor Benefits, Canada Pension Plan Death Benefits and Canada Pension Plan Children’s Benefits, as well as information on other Service Canada programs and benefits, and how to access them.
- Tailored presentations for your clients, to provide them with information on the tool and on other Government of Canada programs, services, and benefits that they may be eligible for, and how to access them.
If you have any questions, would like more information on Service Canada programs, services and benefits, or if you would like to plan an outreach activity with us, please do not hesitate to contact me by return email or phone. I would be happy to provide you or your staff with more information on our services at your convenience.
