With the restrictions to our normal lives caused by COVID-19 unlikely to change any time soon many organizations are looking to technology, and the internet in particular, for solutions. One such technology that you may have heard about is Zoom.
ZOOM is an on-line platform which allows organizations to hold “virtual” meetings over the internet. In order to participate all you need is a computer, a tablet or a smart phone. You can either download the software on to your computer or download the app on to your device ahead of time or this can be done as you log in to the meeting. A link is provided along with the meeting ID and with a few simple clicks following the prompts on your screen at the appointed time anyone can participate.
At CARP Halton Chapter our volunteer program director has been investigating how we can use Zoom for community meetings until such time that we can once again consider our regularly monthly meetings. We are very pleased to announce that we have now arranged such a meeting. This will be held in the morning on Tuesday May 19th from 10.30am to 11.30am. You will find details on how to join the meeting below.
COVID-19 has drastically reduced social interactions that are so vital in keeping our brains active. To provide guidance and help in understanding what we can do about this we have invited Danielle Arbour of the Alzheimer Society of Halton who will present:
“How to Keep a Healthy Brain”
Beginning with understanding the world of dementia, what it is, what causes it, the presentation will go on to explain the top five things you can do right now to reduce your chances of diagnosis.
Danielle has been the Public Education Coordinator at the Alzheimer Society of Halton for the last 5 1/2 years. She has a degree from McMaster University in Gerontology and Health Studies. Following that she also obtained a diploma as a Recreation Therapist. Danielle also has experience working in long term care and hospital, specifically in the rehab, day program, ALC and behavioural units.
We look forward to Danielle sharing her knowledge with us.
Our virtual meeting will take place on Tuesday May 19th from 10.30am to 11.30am
