C.A.R.P. Halton Chapter Zoom Meeting: Fire Safety and Prevention

C.A.R.P. Halton Chapter is pleased to announce details for our next community meeting which will be held via ZOOM on Thursday May 27th from 2.00pm to 3.30pm. You will find details on how to join the meeting below.

For this meeting we will have a presentation on “Fire Safety and Prevention” given by Kim Sopko who is a Public Education Officer with the Burlington Fire Department.

Given the alarmingly high number of house fires that we are seeing this will be a very timely presentation. You will learn just how deadly a house fire can be. Unless you have experienced a house fire it is hard to imagine how in a matter of seconds a small fire can become a raging inferno. You will get important safety tips on how to prevent a fire from happening in your home and even more importantly how to be prepared and what to do if you are suddenly faced with this emergency situation.

The presentation will focus on home fire safety for older adults. A range of topics will be covered in this virtual discussion including:

  • Understanding the statistics and fire risks for older adults
  • The most common causes of fires
  • Simple ways you can prepare, prevent and protect your home and loved ones from fire

Our speaker, Kim Sopko, spent several years in the field of corporate communications and media relations before joining the fire service in 2014. As a public education officer, her work focuses on identifying community risk by using emergency call data to spot fire and public safety trends. These insights help shape the ways the fire department connects with its many audiences. The goal of public education is to stop fighting fires that could have been prevented. She does this by creating engaging content, telling real stories and crafting strategic outreach programs that inform and influence fire-safe behaviours in the community.

Please join us for this most important  and informative meeting. Details on how to join the meeting are below.
