C.A.R.P. Halton Chapter October Community Meetings “Tax Savings for Seniors”

Hard to imagine but in a few short months we will be thinking about and filing our tax returns. In doing so are we taking full advantage of the many opportunities that are available to save on taxes? Tax savings opportunities are out there and its up to the individual to know about them and take advantage of them. Unfortunately many of us don’t know about them and miss out on the savings that are available.

In some way almost everyone has to pay taxes and depending on your situation, filing your taxes can be a confusing and time-consuming ordeal. But most importantly are you doing everything you can to reduce your tax bill?

Our Halton Chapter in person Community meetings in October will help answer that question. Our presenter will be Gordon Stanton from MNP LLP – Accounting, Business Consulting and Tax Services. MNP are a leading Canadian company whose services include advising on personal tax obligations and tax savings opportunities.

Gordon will give a presentation on “Tax Savings for Seniors”.

Paying tax should be more than just sending in your tax return. Are you doing everything you can to reduce your tax bill?

Please join us at either our Milton or Burlington meeting to learn about some tips and strategies which could save you tax.

Topics will include:

  • Pension income splitting
  • CPP and OAS Deferrals
  • Spousal loans
  • RRIF withdrawal planning

Also given the seemingly never ending scam phone calls, emails, etc., there will be discussion to help avoid falling prey to scam CRA emails and phone calls.

Our Milton meeting will be held on Wednesday October 12th, 6.30 to 9.00pm, Revera Birkdale Retirement Living Centre, Derry Rd and Farmstead.

Our Burlington meeting will be held on Thursday October 27th, 6.30 to 9.00pm, Seniors Centre, 2285 New St.

Please plan to join us at either location. We look forward to your support.

At the Milton meeting some visitor parking is available on site with street parking also available on Farmstead. This is a retirement home and it is expected that masks will still be mandatory and must be worn by everyone at all times while on the premises. It is also expected that visitors will be required to take a rapid COVID test prior to entering the building. Doors will open at 6.30pm and our meeting will begin at 7.00pm. We suggest attendees arrive early to allow time for the COVID procedures. Refreshments, coffee, tea and treats will be provided by Revera and we thank the management and staff for their generosity.

At the Burlington Seniors Centre doors will also open at 6.30pm with the meeting set to begin at 7.00pm. Masks are optional but will not be mandatory for this meeting. Coffee and tea will be available with the help of local volunteers. Treats for this meeting will be provided by the local Revera Retirement homes and again we thank them for their support and generosity.

Meetings will begin with a short welcoming address and a brief update on your C.A.R.P. Halton Chapter activities. This will be followed by our featured presentation.

There will be a break at the midway point which will allow time to socialize with fellow members and to visit our sponsors. We encourage you to chat with them and learn about the services they provide.

Our sponsors at Burlington will be:
