The Halton region Police Service have seen a significant increase in the fraudulent use of “gift cards” for payment scams, with many vicitm’s purchasing two to five thousand dollars in gift cards and providing the pin/ codes from the cards to fraudsters before they realize they are being victimized.
If someone requests a gift card as payment chances are its a scam.
These fraudulent requests can come in many different ways, phone call, email, text or even in the regular mail. They will look genuine and they will be very persuasive. Remember….these are scams.
Don’t become a victim.
