Halton Chapter continues to support Lexie Tracey and the management team at Appleby Place Retirement Living (500 Appleby Line in Burlington) who are holding monthly daytime meetings for those unable to attend our evening meetings.
The next daytime meeting will be held on Thursday, March 19th starting at 10am and will wrap up at approx. 11.45am. This is updated information as we will now have two presentations at this meeting.
We will begin with our CARP Halton chapter Advocacy Director Bob Elliot who will discuss our recent survey in which we asked Halton seniors to identify the issues that are of most concern to them. Bob will share:
- a detailed review of the results of our Halton Chapter Advocacy survey.
- share information on his recent meetings with local MPP’s
- discuss how we will continue to advocate for the changes that we feel are required to address the concerns that have been identified.
For the second part of our meeting we will have a presentation on “Averting Crisis with Legacy Planning.” Appleby Place have invited Shirlea Crook, who is a Certified Crisis Intervention Instructor with the Crisis Prevention Institute, to give this important presentation.
Shirlea will explain how failing to plan for the transfer of your assets, responsibilities, and wishes can leave your family facing confusion, conflict, and unnecessary costs. Without clear instructions, loved ones may struggle to locate important documents, access accounts, or make decisions that reflect what you would have wanted. It can also trigger avoidable legal fees, tax burdens, and delays in settling your estate. In the absence of a plan, government default rules take over—often in ways that don’t align with personal relationships or intentions. Taking time to prepare a legacy plan helps protect both your wishes and the people you care about.
Shirlea will also explore strategic steps in your legacy Planning journey in an effort to plan for success and treat estate planning as a “continuity strategy.” This keeps your wishes informed and respected. Learn the steps to take now to avoid crisis and plan for longevity succession as we age.
Bob is looking forward to sharing the results of our survey and to discuss our next steps and Shirlea is thrilled to be joining CARP members to explore pathways for Care Planning and Legacy Succession.
We encourage our CARP members and friends to attend. Your support is essential to ensuring that these meetings can continue. As with our evening meetings we believe that the information to be presented at Appleby Place will be of significant benefit to our seniors’ demographic. We look forward to seeing you there.
All are welcome for an engaging morning of learning and connection!. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and grow together!
