CARP Halton Chapter Evening Community Meetings in September 2026

CARP Halton Chapter invites you to join us at our evening community meetings in September.  We will be holding two evening meetings, one in Halton North and one in Halton South.

Our Halton North community meeting will be held in Milton on Tuesday September 8th at the Venvi Birkdale Retirement Living Residence, 611 Farmstead Drive, (Derry and Farmstead).

Our Halton South community meeting will be held in Burlington on Thursday September 24th at the Seniors Centre at 2285 New Street.

For these meetings we will be pleased to welcome back Doctor Sean Fletch who describes his presentation as follows

“Most health campaigns work from one assumption: give people more information, and better choices will follow. After 30 years in clinical practice, and after writing HealthSpan: Redefined, I have come to believe that is not where the real gap sits anymore.

This September I will be back with CARP, but I am not repeating ground from my last three talks. This time the focus is health literacy, and not in the way it usually gets defined. Health literacy is treated as a knowledge problem: read more, learn more, and better choices follow. That is only half the story. The harder part is developing the confidence to act on what you already know, especially at a stage of life where the people around you, doctors included, often default to giving instructions rather than building your judgment.

That is the distinction I will be unpacking in September: the difference between having information and having agency”.

Details on the exact talk and the thinking behind it is laid out Dr Fletch’s book HealthSpan: Redefined which we introduced in our August newsletter and in case you missed it is repeated below.

To your capacity,

Dr. Sean Fletch

Doors will open at both locations at 6.30pm, the program will start at 7.00pm with a few words from our sponsors, a brief welcoming address and an update on CARP and Halton Chapter activities.

Light refreshments, coffee, tea and treats, will be available. At Milton refreshments will be provided by the Birkdale Retirement Residence. We thank the management and staff for their generosity.

There will be a break at the midway point which will allow time to socialize with fellow members and to visit our sponsors.

We will wrap up around 8.45pm in order to be out of our meeting spaces by 9.00pm. This will allow staff time to close up after our meetings have ended.

Our meetings will conclude with a few closing remarks and our 50/50 draw. We encourage you to support this draw as proceeds help defray the costs incurred in putting on our meetings.

We look forward to your support and to sharing these informative evenings with all of our members and friends.
